Severed head: Police go after culprits in Ilorin

A manhunt has been launched to unravel the culprits behind the severed human head dumped on Police Road, GRA, Ilorin in the early hours of Monday.
Spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Ajayi Okasanmi, told The Herald in an exclusive interview yesterday that the force had commenced investigation into the incident.
He described the heinous crime as another trend in criminality.
The severed head was identified as that of one Star Boy, who allegedly met his death in the hands of a rival cult group.
The headless body of the deceased was reportedly dumped around Railway Area of Ilorin.
Residents and passersby woke up on Monday morning only to see the human head dumped on the road, prompting them to raise alarm and drew the attention of security agents to the scene.
The human head was concealed in nylon and dumped on the road in the early hours of Monday, save for some passersby, who later unwrapped the nylon and discovered the head.
Okasanmi noted that the command was aware of the incident while action had begun in earnest.
“Yes, we are aware of the incident and the state command is investigating. We have launched a manhunt for the culprits”, he added.
When asked whether the incident might be as a result of the renewed hostilities between rival cult groups, the police image-maker said, “it is possible but we are investigating. It is another trend and the command is investigating. At the end of the day, we will come out to tell the public what is discovered”.
Visit to the scene around 9:37am showed that men of the police force from ‘A’ Division of the state command were already on ground with their patrol van and cordoned off the spot.
Some Okada riders at the scene of the incident said Star Boy might have been killed in the renewed hostilities of rival cult groups.
The deceased was said to be popular among his peers and others that he moved with on Obbo road, Ilorin.
An Okada rider, who craved anonymity, alleged that the late Star Boy had terrorized him and some of his colleagues in Ilorin, especially whenever he boards a commercial vehicle.
He said, “What I know about him is that he was very popular at Obbo road. He easily mingled with people there. But whenever he stopped us to pick Okada and after the bargain, he will only give out N100 in a stretch journey that he supposed to pay N200 or more.
Some onlookers claimed the deceased was a son of a security officer while the mother teaches in a private school around GRA, Ilorin.
It was observed that people, who trooped to the scene to catch a glimpse of the horror, started dispersing immediately after the evacuation of the severed head, which was conveyed in the police patrol van.
The incident came barely two weeks after a severed human head was found on the overhead bridge of Post-Office area of Ilorin.
At the time, some sympathizers and bystanders, who thronged the scene, identified the human head as that of one Lucifer.
