From Gold Rahman, Lokoja
The notorious Lokoja-Okene highway recorded fresh tragedy on Thursday as two persons described as Naval Officers (a male and a female) were shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen along the route.
The incident, which happened around 6pm, came six days after an Army Captain GSM Abubakar was also murdered in cold blood on the same road.
The deceased’s mother and wife were reportedly kidnapped by the criminals.
The officers were said to be travelling in a Toyota Sienna bus when they were stopped by the gunmen who opened fire killing them on the spot.
The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, Ayuba Ede confirmed the incident to The Herald in a phone interview.
He informed that he had sent his men to the scene of the dastardly act to find out the details of how and when it happened.
“Yes, I heard about it and I have dispatched my men there to bring me the details of how and when it happened,” the police boss said.
As at the time of this report, the deceased’s point of departure and destination could not be ascertained.
The team of policemen sent to the scene by the state police commissioner were still being expected in Lokoja at the time of filing this report
