The world of boxing has lost one of its greatest former world heavyweight champions, George Foreman.
Famed for his 15 rounds ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ bout against Muhammad Ali in October 1974 in Kinshasa, Zaire (now DR Congo), a family statement said Foreman died on March 21 at the age of 76.
“With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr, who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
“We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of a man, we were blessed to call our own,” the statement said.
The late boxer was born in Texas on January 10, 1949, but dropped out of school at 16 and took up boxing.
At age of 19, he won gold medal in the super heavyweight division at the Mexico Olympic Games in 1968.
