Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has performed the lesser Hajj (Umrah) in the early hours of Friday, as Muslims marked the first night of the last ten days of Ramadan 1446 AH.
Sharing his experience, the governor reflected on the spiritual significance of these final nights, during which millions of Muslims seek Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Majesty, believed to be a time of immense divine mercy and blessings.
“As millions gather to worship God and circumambulate the blessed and sacred House of God, Ka’abah, I pray to God to answer our prayers, grant us the blessings of these days, bless our country, ease our affairs, and guide us aright at all times,” AbdulRazaq wrote in a statement.
The governor also cited a well-known supplication from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu annaa! meaning, “O Allah, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive us.”
As the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), AbdulRazaq’s spiritual journey resonates with many Muslims who consider this period a crucial time for prayer, reflection, and seeking divine favor.
The last ten nights of Ramadan hold profound importance in Islam, with believers intensifying their devotion in search of Laylatul Qadr, which the Qur’an describes as “better than a thousand months.”
Governor AbdulRazaq’s pilgrimage highlights the deep religious commitment among Nigerian leaders and their connection with the global Muslim community during this sacred time.
