As Muslims world over commence this year Ramadan fast yesterday, Muslim faithful in Nigeria have been admonished to usher in the holy month with fear of Allah, total submission to His will, and let the month serve as a spiritual rejuvenation.
The founder of Markaz Nuru Li Islam School of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Lagos State, Sheikh Daud Alfa-Nla Eleha gave the admonition at the weekend during the 7th Pre-Ramadan lecture organised by Assobireena Islamic Forum Nigeria held at the organisation’s Central Mosque, Agbooba area, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Sheikh Eleha who described Ramadan as a month of abundant blessings and mercies from Allah, urged the Muslims to avail themselves of these golden opportunities by ensuring that they do all what is right and forbid the unlawful deeds before, during and after the Ramadan.
The Lagos based Islamic cleric advised Muslims faithful to prepare for the Ramadan fast with piety, patience, love for one another, generosity, and mind of forgiveness to their fellow Muslims.
He admonished Muslims to intensify efforts in the reading of the Holy Quran during the Ramadan and other lawful and philanthropic engagements, and eschew bad conducts that are capable of breaking their fast and ‘Ibaddah’.
Eleha said Ramadan is a key to paradise, just like Quran is a vehicle through which the attainment of God’s mercy could be achieved.
He stated further that Ramadan brings peace of mind, and societal order, just as he called on Muslims to endeavour to fast during the month of Ramadan the same way and manner the Prophet Muhammad observed fast so as to be rewarded accordingly.
In his address at the occasion, the founder of Al-Hikmah University, Chief Abdulraheem Oladimeji commended the organiser of the lecture for his good foresight and commitment to the course of Islam and pledged his support to the center any time the need arises.
Speaking on the side line of the event, the Imam Imale of Ilorin, Alhaji Abdulhameed Abdullahi advised Muslims to prepare themselves spiritually and hands-off all evil deeds they have engaged in the past, saying that Ramadan is a month of blessings and correctness of the evil one might have committed in the past.
In his comments, the founder of the Holy Quran Islamic Forum Nigeria, Dr Uthman Akanbi Abduls-Salam of Department of Arabic, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, said the lecture was designed to herald the coming of Ramadan and to educate Muslims on the spiritual benefit of Ramadan and more importantly to throw light on those conducts that are expected of them during the month in order to reap the full benefits this sacred month is out to offer the Muslim faithful.
He disclosed that the three cardinal functions of his center are training exercise, Quranic memorization and supplication.
Dr Abdus-Salam said the pre-Ramadan lecture also featured Quranic graduation ceremony and award presentation to some selected personalities in the society in recognition of their valuable contribution to the growth and promotion of Islam.
Other dignitaries on the occasion included the Registrar of Al-Hikmah University, Dr Rasheedat Oladimeji; the proprietor of Daru-Kittab Wa-Sunnna, Dr Abdulqaudri Salman Solagberu; among others.
